How to do business with the United Nations in the context of the Strategic Heritage Plan


The Strategic Heritage Plan (SHP) and the Procurement Unit hosted a Business Seminar on 20 March 2018 on how to do business with the United Nations in the context of the Strategic Heritage Plan Construction and Renovation Project. Further information is available here.





Background information



The United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG) is the second largest United Nations (UN) centre after the UN Headquarters in New York. UNOG is housed in the Palais des Nations (PdN) situated in the beautiful 46 hectare Ariana Park overlooking Lake Geneva in Switzerland.

The Strategic Heritage Plan (SHP) includes the construction of a new office building which started in October 2017, the renovation of the 1930s historic buildings and the demolition of an office tower above an existing conference building from the 1970s to be renovated.

The renovation has a significant amount of mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) including replacing over 1700 km of electrical cabling, 10 km of pipes, 250 electrical panels and 45 air handling units, to transform the Palais into a more energy efficient building with safer facilities and make it more accessible for disabled persons.

The SHP will ensure that the Palais continues to serve for the next generation as a safe, cost-effective and sustainable conference centre and as a major platform to support the UN’s important mission working for peace, human rights and well-being across the world.


The next major milestones for the project are:
  • CONTRACT 1: To complete construction of the new 23,000 m2 office building by end 2019.
  • CONTRACT 2: To select a contractor partner in 2019 for the renovation of the 100,000+ m2 of the 1930s historic buildings.
  • CONTRACT 3: To select a contractor partner in 2021 for the 20,000+ m2 demolition and 50,000+ m2 renovation of 1970s E Building.
