Selected Highlights of the Director-General's activities

In the context of his regular meetings with Member States, the Director-General met with the African Group and briefed them on the Secretary-General's 2013 priorities with a particular focus on the perspective from Geneva.

The Director-General, in his capacity as Secretary-General of the Conference on Disarmament and Personal Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General to the Conference, participated in presidential consultations of the Conference.

The Director-General opened the exhibition “For a Mine-Free World – 20 years of the International Campaign to Ban Landmines”.

The Director-General attended a dinner hosted by Mr. Hellmut Hoffmann, Permanent Representative of Germany to the Conference on Disarmament, on the occasion of the opening of the exhibition entitled "For a Mine-Free World – 20 years of the International Campaign to Ban Landmines".

The Director-General welcomed Mr. Didier Burkhalter, Vice President of the Swiss Confederation and Head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs to the United Nations Office at Geneva.

The Director-General, in his capacity as Secretary-General of the Conference on Disarmament and Personal Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General to the Conference, participated in a plenary meeting of the Conference.

The Director-General participated in a working luncheon hosted by Ms. Laura Kennedy, Permanent Representative of the United States of America to the Conference on Disarmament, Mr. John Ordway, Ambassador and Head of the BCC Delegation (USA - Russia Bilateral Consultative Commission on the New START Treaty), and Mr. Mukhtar Tileuberdi, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva.

The Director-General participated by videoconference in a meeting of the Senior Management Group, chaired by the United Nations Secretary-General.

The Director-General met with the Latin American and Caribbean regional group of Member States as part of his ongoing consultations with regional groups this week.

The new Permanent Representative of Kenya, Mr. John Otachi Kakonge presented his credentials to the Director-General, who welcomed him as his country’s new representative to the United Nations in Geneva.

The Director-General met with Ambassador Mr. Cornel Feruta, Chairman of the Preparatory Committee (PrepCom) for the 2015 Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), as well as Mrs. Maria Ciobanu, Permanent Representative of Romania to the United Nations Office and other international organizations. They discussed disarmament-related issues, as well as the upcoming NPT Review Conference.

The Director-General participated by video-conference in the Management Committee meeting chaired by the Chef de Cabinet of the Executive Office of the UN Secretary-General, in which cross-cutting management issues of the Organization were discussed.

The Director-General met with Mr. Mauro Romano Reina, Ambassador-designate of Switzerland to the Republic of Kazakhstan to discuss issues of common interest.

The Director-General met Mr. Shalva Tsiskarashvili, Permanent Representative of Georgia to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva.

The Director-General opened the UNOG Library Talk "Connecting the world: Art and the information society".

The Director-General met with the Western European and Others Group of Member States as part of his ongoing consultations with regional groups this week.

The new Permanent Representative of Cuba, Mrs. Anayansi Rodríguez Camejo, presented her credentials to the Director-General, who welcomed her as her country’s new representative to the United Nations in Geneva.
