The Director-General welcomed the United Nations Secretary-General Mr. Ban Ki-moon to Geneva and accompanied him throughout his visit.

The Director-General accompanied the United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to Bern, Switzerland.
Two statues by the artist Arpád Raèko, expressing the universal themes of music and poetry, were donated to the United Nations Office at Geneva by the Government of the Slovak Republic. The Director-General expressed his appreciation to Mr. Ivan Gašparoviè, President of the Slovak Republic for the gift and noted that the statues would serve as a reminder of the importance of art in building bridges between cultures.

The new Permanent Representative of the Sultanate of Oman, Mr. Abdulla Nasser Musallam Al-Rahbi presented his credentials to the Director-General, who welcomed him as his country’s new representative to the United Nations in Geneva.
The Director-General met with Assistant Secretary-General Mr. John Barkat who serves as the Head of the United Nations Ombudsman and Mediation Service.

The Director-General met with Ms. Angela Kane, High Representative for Disarmament Affairs to discuss the work of the United Nations in the area of disarmament, as well as the current situation in the Conference on Disarmament.
The Director-General, in his capacity as Secretary-General of the Conference on Disarmament and Personal Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General to the Conference, participated in a plenary meeting of the Conference.
The Director-General hosted a luncheon in honour of Heads of permanent missions to the Conference on Disarmament.
The Director-General attended a dinner hosted by Ambassador Karen Elizabeth Pierce, Permanent Representative of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva.

The Director-General spoke to members of the American International Club on United Nations priorities and challenges facing the Organization.
The Director-General met with Ms. Elissa Golberg, Permanent Representative of Canada to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva and to the Conference on Disarmament.

The Director-General welcomed the public for “Open Day 2012”, as the Palais des Nations opened its doors to the local community.
