The Director-General participated in the opening of the annual high-level segment of the Human Rights Council which will feature addresses by some 90 Ministers and other high-level dignitaries.

The Director-General, in his capacity as Secretary-General of the Conference on Disarmament and Personal Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General to the Conference, participated in presidential consultations of the Conference.

The Director-General opened the exhibition “London 2012 - Rio 2016 – Transformation Through Sport", which focused on the transformative power of sport in the lead-up to the 2012 and 2016 Olympic Games.

The Director-General met Mr. Ikram Adyrbekov, Special Envoy of the Head of the Congress Secretariat of the IV Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions, and Senator of the Parliament of Kazakhstan, to discuss issues of common concern.

The Director-General met Professor Ekmeleddin Ýhsanoðlu, Secretary-General, Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to discuss current regional developments and continued cooperation between the United Nations and the OIC.

The Director-General met Mr. Aliakbar Salehi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran to discuss issues of common interest.

The Director-General opened the exhibition “La Edad de la Inocencia”, which featured artwork by the Uruguayan artist Nelson Romero and was held to mark the Uruguayan presidency of the Human Rights Council, which comes to an end in March 2012.

The Director-General attended a reception hosted by Mr. Nicolas Niemtchinow, Permanent Representative of France, in honour of Mr. Alain Juppé, Minister of State, Minister for Foreign and European Affairs of France.

The Director-General attended a reception hosted by Mr. Fedor Rosocha, Permanent Representative of the Slovak Republic, in honour of Ms. Iveta Radièová, Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic.

The Director-General met Mr. Yerzhan Kh. Kazykhanov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan to discuss continued cooperation between Kazakhstan and the United Nations and other issues of common interest.

The Director-General met Mr. Gonzalo de Benito, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Spain to discuss shared priorities, as well as disarmament-related issues.

The Director-General, in his capacity as Secretary-General of the Conference on Disarmament and Personal Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General to the Conference, participated in a high-level segment of the Conference.

The Director-General attended a reception organized by the Swiss Federal Council, the State Council of the Republic and Canton of Geneva and the Administrative Council of the City of Geneva on the occasion of the 19th session of the Human Rights Council.

The Director-General participated in a working lunch with Mr. Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser, President of the 66th session of the United Nations General Assembly to discuss collaboration in the advancement of United Nations priorities.

The Director-General met Mr. Enrique Castillo, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Worship of Costa Rica. The Director-General expressed his appreciation for the contributions of Costa Rica to the work of the United Nations and discussed other areas of common interest.

The new Permanent Representative of China, Mr. Liu Zhenmin, presented his credentials to the Director-General, who welcomed him as his country’s new representative to the United Nations in Geneva.

The Director-General opened the exhibition “Aboriginal Dreamtime” and highlighted the importance of the promotion and protection of human rights for indigenous peoples.

The Director-General met Mr. Iurie Leancã, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Moldova to discuss issues related to the Human Rights Council, the Conference on Disarmament and other areas of common interest.

The Director-General met Mr. Ruslan Kazakbaev, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic to discuss regional developments and shared priorities in relation to the work of the United Nations in human rights and preventative diplomacy.

The Director-General met Mrs. Vesna Pusiæ, Minister for Foreign and European Affairs of Croatia. He expressed appreciation for the support of Croatia to the work of the United Nations in early engagement and preventive diplomacy, as well as in peacekeeping. Disarmament and sustainable development were also discussed.

The Director-General attended a luncheon with Mrs. Micheline Calmy-Rey, former Swiss President and Minister of Foreign Affairs, hosted by Ambassador Fred Tanner, Director of the Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP).

The Director-General opened the exhibition "Václev Havel, Playright, Human Rights Defender, Statesman".

The Director-General, in his capacity as Secretary-General of the Conference on Disarmament and Personal Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General to the Conference, participated in a high-level segment of the Conference.

The Director-General met Mr. Vu Dung, Permanent Representative of Viet Nam.

The Director-General addressed the opening session of the third meeting of the Governing Council of the Community of Democracies, and highlighted that supporting effective democracy was central to the work of the United Nations.

The Director-General participated in the launch of the global anti-landmine campaign "Lend Your Leg", on the 13th anniversary of the Anti-personnel Mine Ban Convention becoming international law.

The Director-General opened a performance by Signmark, a deaf Finnish rapper, held to mark the 19th session of the Human Rights Council and its Interactive Debate on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, held today.

The Director-General met with the Latin American and Caribbean Group of Member States to engage on a substantive discussion on themes of common interest.

The Director-General met Mr. Ian Martin, Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) to discuss current developments and continued collaboration.
