The Director-General met with participants in the Reham Al-Farra Memorial Fellowship Programme to discuss the vision and priorities of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

The Director-General opened the "Building the Future We Want", organized by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe on the occasion of World Habitat Day.

The Director-General attended a reception hosted by H.E. Mr. Alexandre Fasel, Permanent Representative of Switzerland to the Conference on Disarmament.

The Director-General attended a welcoming reception on the occasion of the 63rd session of the Executive Committee of the High Commissioner's Programme, as well as a ceremony for the Nansen Refugee Award.

The Director-General gave a lecture at the University of Geneva on "United Nations in the 21st Century: Governance and Reform", hosted by Ms. Micheline Calmy-Rey, former President and Foreign Minister of the Swiss Confederation.

The Director-General attended a reception on the occasion of the National Day of Germany hosted by H.E. Mr. Hanns H. Schumacher, Permanent Representative of Germany to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva and by H.E. Mr. Hellmut Hoffmann, Permanent Representative of Germany to the Conference on Disarmament.

The Director-General opened a performance of “La Véritable Apologie de Socrate”, sponsored by the Permanent Missions of Albania and Greece.

The Director-General attended a dinner in honour of Mr. Guy Ryder, newly-appointed Director General of the International Labour Organization (ILO), hosted by H.E. Ms. Karen Elizabeth Pierce, Permanent Representative of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva.

The Director-General met H.E. Mr. Remigi Winzap, newly-appointed Permanent Representative of Switzerland to the World Trade Organization and the EFTA (European Free Trade Association) to discuss issues of common interest.

The Director-General met Ms. Theresa Hitchens, Director of the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR) to discuss UNIDIR’s work, including recent developments in disarmament-related areas, and UNIDIR’s support to the work of the Conference on Disarmament.

The Director-General opened an exhibition entitled “Afghanistan through Afghan Eyes”.
