Selected Highlights of the Director-General's activities

The Director-General participated as the representative of United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon at the Additional Official Commemorative Meeting to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in Belgrade, hosted by the Government of Serbia and chaired by the Government of Egypt.
The Director-General met with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia, Mr. Mirko Cvetkovic, for an exchange of views on the cooperation between the United Nations and Serbia, regional developments and economic challenges.
As a special guest, the Director-General addressed a joint meeting of the Forum for Security Co-operation and the Permanent Council of the Organization of for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) in Vienna.

The Director-General met with the newly-appointed Secretary General of the Organization for Security and Co-operation (OSCE), Mr. Lamberto Zannier.
The Director-General met in Vienna with the Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Mr. Yukiya Amano, for discussions on the status of multilateral disarmament and non-proliferation discussions, and on cooperation between the United Nations and the IAEA.

The Director-General visited the Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) where he also held bilateral consultations with Executive Secretary Tibor Tóth on how to advance multilateral disarmament and non-proliferation efforts, and awareness-raising and outreach in these areas.
The Director-General met with Mr. Ivan Pictet, President of the Geneva Foundation and Mr. François Nordmann, President of the Diplomatic Club of Geneva to discuss the role of international Geneva and other issues of mutual concern.

The Director-General hosted the UNOG commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, in which staff attended the broadcast of the ceremony from UN Headquarters in New York, organized by the President of the General Assembly, Mr. Joseph Deiss, with musical performances by the New York Symphony Orchestra.

The Director-General attended an event in honour of Mr. Antonio de Aguiar Patriota, Minister for External Relations of Brazil, hosted by Mrs. Maria N. Farani Azevêdo, Permanent Representative of Brazil.
