Today, the Director-General met with the Permanent Representative of the Netherlands to the Conference on Disarmament and President-designate of the Seventh Review Conference of the Biological Weapons Convention (BWC).
The Director-General attended an event today on the occasion of World Environment Day, hosted by the Swiss Federal Council, the State Council of the Republic and Canton of Geneva, and the Administrative Council of the City of Geneva.
Russian Language Day was observed today by the Director-General at an event organized by the Permanent Mission of Russia which included an exhibition of Russian books and a performance by a traditional choral group.
The Director-General participated in a meeting of the Senior Management Group (SMG), chaired by the Secretary-General.
The Director-General opened the art installation “The Recycling Labyrinth” - A Path Towards a Greener Future”, an exhibit organized by the Permanent Mission of the United States of America.

The Director-General met with Mrs. Marie-Thérèse Pictet-Althann, Permanent Observer of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva to discuss issues of mutual cooperation in various fields.
The Director-General met with ambassadors from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Committee to exchange views on the work of the Conference on Disarmament and United Nations-ASEAN cooperation.
The Director-General received the credentials of Mr. Umunna Humphrey Orjiako, the Permanent Representative of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and welcomed him as the new Nigerian Ambassador.
The Director-General met with the President of Green Cross International to discuss environmental challenges before the international community and ongoing collaboration with the United Nations, including preparation for the “Rio plus 20” Conference in 2012.
The Director-General held a meeting with Mr. SO Se Pyong, Permanent Representative of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea to discuss its forthcoming presidency of the Conference on Disarmament.

The Director-General was made an honorary member at the General Assembly of the Diplomatic Club of Geneva.
The Director-General met with Mr. Antoine Marguier, the Artistic Director of the United Nations Orchestra as well as the President and Vice-President, to discuss the activities of the Orchestra in Geneva.

The Director-General visited Emergency Relief Coordination Centre and was briefed on the work of OCHA responding to humanitarian crises worldwide.
The Director-General attended a meeting held in his honour and hosted by the Rector of the University of Geneva, Mr. Jean-Dominique Vassalli, at which he highlighted how the research, analysis and practical skills of universities can enhance the work of the United Nations.
A meeting with the Director of the Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces (DCAF), Ambassador Dr. Theodor H. Winkler, and other personnel was held today with the Director-General.

The Director-General met with Mr. Jayantha Dhanapala, President of the Pugwash Conferences on Science and World Affairs and member of the Advisory Board of the Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces.
The Director-General attended a reception to celebrate the National Day of the Russian Federation.
The Director-General attended the Geneva Opera Pool today and in his remarks at the Grand Théâtre, noted the timeliness of the opera “The Love of the Three Oranges”, and its vision of a world where solutions to complex problems can be found only through common efforts.
