The Director-General, in his capacity as Secretary-General of the Conference on Disarmament and Personal Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General to the Conference, participated in presidential consultations of the Conference on Disarmament.

The Director-General met with the Asian and Eastern European regional groups of Member States to present his strategic priorities and to exchange views on issues of common concern as part of his ongoing efforts to facilitate the work of the diplomatic community.

The event “Development of Human Rights and John Paul II”, which included a conference, concert and exhibition of stamps, was attended by the Director-General.

The Director-General met with Mr. Andreas Hadjichrysanthou, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Cyprus to discuss collaboration between the United Nations Office at Geneva and the Permanent Mission, and developments in the wider region.

The Director-General met with Ambassador Mara Marinaki, Managing Director for Global and Multilateral Issues, European External Action Service, European Union and Ms. Mariangela Zappia, Permanent Observer, European Union.

The Director-General met with the African regional group of Member States as part of his ongoing consultations with regional groups this week.

The Director-General attended an exhibit on “The Aland Islands Solution – a precedent for successful international disputes settlement” where he reaffirmed the commitment of the United Nations to the peaceful resolution of conflict.

The Director-General met with a group of representatives from a number of Member States to discuss the activities of the Conference on Disarmament and to highlight the commitment of the United Nations to disarmament and non-proliferation as part of the broader efforts for a more secure world.

The Director-General met with the Western European and Others regional group of Member States as part of his ongoing consultations with regional groups this week, presented his strategic priorities and discussed how to strengthen cooperation.

The Director-General met with Mr. Md. Abdul Hannan, Permanent Representative of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.

The Director-General met with Ms. Theresa Hitchens, Director, United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR) to discuss issues related to national, regional and international security, disarmament and development.

The Director-General met with Mrs. Gulnara Iskakova, Permanent Representative of Kyrgyzstan and discussed the contributions of Kyrgyzstan to the work of the United Nations, recent developments in Central Asia and continued cooperation.

The Director-General met with the Latin American and Caribbean regional group of Member States as part of his ongoing consultations with regional groups this week.

The Director-General met with Ambassador Maurizio Moreno, President of the International Institute of Humanitarian Law.

The Director-General met with Mr. Juan José Gómez Camacho, Permanent Representative of Mexico.

The Director-General participated by video-conference in the Management Committee meeting chaired by the United Nations Deputy Secretary-General in which cross-cutting management issues of the Organization were discussed.
