The Director-General met with Mr. Kiyotaka Akasaka, Under-Secretary-General for Communications and Public Information today to discuss public information issues in relation to UNOG and the broader United Nations system.
The Director-General, together with Mr. Kiyotaka Akasaka, Under-Secretary-General for Communications and Public Information, met with the Association of Correspondents Accredited to the United Nations (ACANU) to discuss the importance of public awareness-raising and the role of the global media.
The Director-General met with the Geneva Group today, hosted by the Permanent Representative of the United Kingdom. The Geneva Group is made up of the top 14 contributors to United Nations budgets and works to ensure effective management and better oversight and accountability within the United Nations system.
The Director-General met with Dr. Mukesh Kapila, Under-Secretary-General, International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and highlighted issues of mutual cooperation.

The Director-General met with Mr. Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, President of the Republic of Indonesia. Issues discussed included strengthening cooperation with the United Nations as part of Indonesia’s chairmanship of ASEAN and outcomes of the World Economic Forum’s East Asia Meeting recently held in Indonesia.
The Director-General attended special sessions of the International Labour Conference where speakers included Mr. Vladimir V. Putin, Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, Ms. Micheline Calmy-Rey, President of the Swiss Confederation and Mr. Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, President of the United Republic of Tanzania.
The Director-General met with Mr. Vladimir V. Putin, Prime Minister of the Russian Federation to discuss Russian support for the United Nations.
Today, the Director-General attended a meeting hosted by the Conseil d’Etat of Geneva, in which he thanked the Host Country at all levels for its continued commitment to bringing together and strengthening key elements within Geneva’s international community.
The Director-General met with Mr. Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, President of the United Republic of Tanzania and discussed issues related to Tanzania’s contributions to the United Nations, including its membership on the Executive Board of UN Women and its leadership in regional security and peacekeeping.

The Director-General took part in a formal plenary meeting and held meetings with regional groups within the Conference on Disarmament to discuss the current challenges in moving towards substantive work in the Conference.
The Director-General met with Mr. Zalmai Aziz, Permanent Representative of Afghanistan and discussed the work of the United Nations in Afghanistan and the wider region.
The Director-General attended a literary evening held in honour of the poet and essayist Czeslaw Milosz who was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1980.

The Director-General met with the Grand Master of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta Fra’ Matthew Festing, to discuss the work of the Order in humanitarian emergencies and public health and receive the donation of the sculpture “Compassion”.
The Director-General met with Mrs. Khadija Rachida Masri, Permanent Observer of the African Union to discuss recent developments in North Africa, as well as the collaboration between the United Nations and the African Union in such areas as peacekeeping and sustainable development.
