The Director-General took part in a working meeting with Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office of the United Kingdom, Mr. Alistair Burt.
The Director-General participated in the opening of the Seventh Review Conference of the Biological Weapons Convention (BWC), which takes place at the Palais des Nations from 5 December to 22 December 2011 to review the 15 articles of the Convention.
The Director-General opened an exhibition of glass-microbiology sculptures by artist Luke Jarram.
The Director-General met with Ambassador Rolf Nikel, Commissioner of the Federal Government of Germany for Arms Control and Disarmament, and Ambassador Hellmut Hoffman, Permanent Representative of Germany to the Conference on Disarmament.
The Director-General met with Mr. Jaakko Laajava, Under-Secretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland and Facilitator of the 2012 Conference on the establishment of a Middle East zone free of nuclear weapons and all other weapons of mass destruction.
The Director-General took part in an event hosted by the Permanent Representative of Thailand, Ambassador Sihasak Phuangketkeow, on the occasion of the 84th birthday anniversary of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej and expressed his congratulations on this occasion.
The Director-General attended an event to mark the 20th anniversary of the independence of Kazakhstan and extended his congratulations to the Government and people of the country.

Director-General Receives Credentials from Permanent Representative of Qatar
The Director-General participated in the opening of the 100th session of the Council of the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
The Director-General addressed a panel discussion to mark the 25th anniversary of the United Nations Declaration on the Right to Development, under the theme of “The Relevance of the Right to Development in the Context of Global Challenges”.

The Director-General chaired, together with the Director of the Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces (DCAF) the annual joint UNOG-DCAF seminar, focused this year on “Privatization of Security: International Standards and Accountability”.
The Director-General participated in the opening of the ministerial-level meeting hosted by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees on the occasion the 60th anniversary of the 1951 Convention relating to the Status of Refugees and the 50th anniversary of the 1961 Convention on the Reduction of Statelessness, taking place at the Palais des Nations on 7 and 8 December 2011.
The Director-General met with Dr. Wolfgang Waldner, Austrian State Secretary for Foreign Affairs, for a discussion of current challenges in international affairs.
The Director-General opened the exhibition of photographs of refugees and internally displaced persons by Espen Rasmussen entitled Transit, organized by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the Permanent Mission of Switzerland to mark the UNHCR ministerial-level meeting.

The Director-General met Ms. Micheline Calmy-Rey, President of the Swiss Confederation, and joined her at the ministerial-level meeting hosted by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees on the occasion the 60th anniversary of the 1951 Convention relating to the Status of Refugees and the 50th anniversary of the 1961 Convention on the Reduction of Statelessness, where she delivered a statement.
The Director-General met Mr. Kairat Umarov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan to discuss the contributions of Kazakhstan to the work of the United Nations and continued cooperation.
The Director-General met with Ms. Theresa Hitchens, Director of the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR) to discuss recent developments in disarmament-related areas, including UNIDIR’s support to the work of the Conference on Disarmament.

The Director-General opened a seminar entitled "Developments and Implications of Missile Defence", hosted by the Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP).
The new Permanent Representative of Jordan, Mr. Rajab Moh'd A. Sukayri, presented his credentials to the Director-General who welcomed him as his country’s new representative to the United Nations in Geneva.
The Director-General received credentials from the new Permanent Representative of the Solomon Islands, Mr. Moses Mose Kouni and welcomed him as the new Ambassador of the Solomon Islands in Geneva.
