The Director-General accompanied United Nations Secretary-General Mr. Ban Ki-moon on his visit to Bern, Switzerland, which included talks with Mrs. Micheline Calmy-Rey, President of
the Swiss Confederation with members of the Swiss Government, the two Presidents of the Parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committees and selected senior representatives of the Swiss Federal Administration.

United Nations Secretary-General Mr. Ban Ki-moon met with the Director-General to discuss priorities for the United Nations Office at Geneva and the greater United Nations family in Geneva.
The Director-General accompanied the United Nations Secretary-General who addressed the Executive Committee Meeting of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE).
The Director-General met with Mr. Jakob Kellenberger, President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to discuss continued cooperation and issues of common concern.
The Director-General opened the exhibition “True Lights of My City”, which featured paintings by the Chilean artist Felipe Mercedal.

Mr. Ibrahim A.E. Aldredi, the new Permanent Representative of Libya presented his credentials to the Director-General, who welcomed him as his country’s representative to the United Nations in Geneva.
Mr. Petru Dumitriu, Permanent Observer of the Council of Europe to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva presented his letter of nomination to the Director-General who highlighted the importance of collaboration with regional organizations.
The Director-General chaired a meeting of the Group of Friends of the Palais des Nations, which focused on recent developments regarding the Strategic Heritage Plan for renovation of the Palais des Nations.
The Director-General participated in a Roundtable discussion on “The Right to Development: Constraints and Perspectives” to mark the 25th anniversary of the United Nations Declaration on the Right to Development.
The Director-General opened the exhibition “Armed Violence”, which was organized by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and featured photographs illustrating the impact of armed violence on local communities.

The Director-General met with Mr. Alberto J. Dumont, the Permanent Representative of Argentina before his departure from Geneva and thanked him for efficient work.
The Director-General met with Colonel Mark D. Baines, Commandant of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) School.
The Director-General gave an interview to the Swiss television station Télévision Suisse Romande (TSR) which focused on the renovation of the Palais des Nations.
The Director-General met with Mr. Antti Turunen, United Nations Representative and Co-Chair of the Geneva Discussions.
The Director-General attended a reception in commemoration of the National Day of Hungary, and shared his congratulations on this occasion.

The new Permanent Representative of Andorra, Mr. Enric Tarrado Vives, presented his credentials to the Director-General, who welcomed him as his country’s new representative to the United Nations in Geneva.

The Director-General participated in the opening ceremony of a meeting organized by the United Nations Office at Geneva and the Geneva International Model United Nations (GIMUN) on the occasion of United Nations Day, celebrated on 24 October.
