ACCESSIBILITY AT UNOG A A A A The United Nations in the Heart of Europe

The Director-General

Welcome Message

A warm welcome to the website of the United Nations Office at Geneva!

A key member of the United Nations family, we facilitate the Organization’s work in the promotion of peace, development and human rights. We build partnerships with civil society, research, academia and other international actors. We nurture mutual respect and understanding through cultural exchange. We preserve the institutional memory and unique heritage of the United Nations, and we reach out to mobilize support for the efforts of our Organization.

Across all of these activities, we draw on the unique traditions and spirit of Geneva as a multilateral platform, bringing together different stakeholders and points of view.

In the historic setting of the Palais des Nations, we work for a better future for all. Over 10,000 meetings are hosted here every year, each in different ways touching the lives of people across the globe. Whether it is promoting individual rights and empowerment, helping to build peace in fragile communities, advancing disarmament, non-proliferation and arms control, facilitating humanitarian action or building conditions for sustainable development, the discussions and decisions at the Palais des Nations make a difference in the lives of people everywhere.

UNOG forms part of an active United Nations family in Geneva and our website serves as a gateway also to the wider system based here. You can link to other United Nations entities and through our calendar you can learn more about the varied activities of the whole family, working together for peace, prosperity and dignity for all.

It is a priority for me to strengthen this collaborative work, and to maintain the Palais des Nations and Geneva as a multilateral centre where global solutions are shaped for you.

I invite you to explore the website to learn more about our work and engage with the United Nations. It is only with your support that we can achieve our shared goals.
