6 March 2012
The Director-General participated in a round-table discussion organized by UNOG, the International Organization of la Francophonie (OIF) and the Association of Correspondents Accredited to the United Nations in Geneva (ACANU) on "Communicating to women on global issues". The discussion, held on the occasion of International Women’s Day, focused on the role of women's magazines and other media with a large female audience in communicating current global issues. In his remarks, the Director-General highlighted the progress made by the United Nations in advancing gender equality, and noted the need to harness traditional and emerging media to find ways to provide women with both a global overview and a local understanding of our rapidly evolving environment.
