Director-General Participates in Panel Discussion on Report of Secretary-General’s High-Level Panel on Global Sustainability

The Director-General participated in a panel discussion on the Report of the Secretary-General’s High-Level Panel on Global Sustainability. The event featured Mr. Janos Pasztor, Executive Secretary of the Panel, Ms. Micheline Calmy-Rey, Panel Member and former President of the Swiss Confederation, Mr. Claude Hauser, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Federation of Migros Cooperatives, Mr. Bertrand Piccard, President of the Solar Impulse Project, and other representatives of United Nations entities, civil society and the private sector. The Panel served as a starting point for dialogue on the main recommendations of the Report and their future implementation. In his remarks, the Director-General noted that the innovative work of the Panel provided a set of practical and durable solutions on which progress could and must be made. He also stressed that work on environmental protection, social equity and economic growth must be integrated to achieve a truly sustainable future for all.
