Director-General Meets President of Germany

The Director-General met with H.E. Mr. Joachim Gauck, President of Germany. The Director-General described the wide range of activities undertaken by the United Nations, its agencies, funds and programmes from Geneva, the second largest United Nations centre in the world. He thanked the President for Germany' s important contribution to the work of the Organization and its steadfast commitment to peace and human rights. The Director-General and the President discussed the Strategic Heritage Plan for the renovation of the Palais des Nations and emphasized the need to explore all options for financing of this endeavour. They also reviewed the financial situation of the United Nations and the efforts undertaken by the Secretary-General to streamline its budget.
