Director-General Observes International Day against Nuclear Tests
29 August 2011
The Director-General addressed an event, organized in collaboration between the Permanent Mission of Kazakhstan and the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation, to mark the International Day against Nuclear Tests. The Director-General recalled that the unanimous adoption by the United Nations General Assembly in 2009 of resolution A/RES/64/35 designating the International Day was both a reflection of the deep concern of the international community about the dangers posed by nuclear tests and a recognition of the great contribution of Kazakhstan in this area. Recalling the consequences of nuclear tests, he emphasized that the quintessence of security does not lie in nuclear weapons but in peaceful foreign policy, internal stability and sustainable economic development.
