UNITED NATIONS SPECIAL ADVISER ON SPORT FOR DEVELOPMENT AND PEACE VISITS DEMOCRATIC PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF KOREA

Wilfried Lemke, the Special Adviser to the United Nations Secretary-General on Sport for Development and Peace, visited the Democratic People's Republic of Korea from 6 to 9 July 2013 at the invitation of the Government.
During his mission Mr. Lemke met the Minister of Sport and Chairman of the National Olympic Committee, Mr. RI Jong Moo and other senior officials of the Committee, and representatives of the Football Federation, the Women Sports Committee and the Paralympic Committee. The Special Adviser visited Masik skiing facilities which are under construction. He also visited various sport facilities in Pyongyang.
Mr. Lemke stated that his mission was fruitful in increasing understanding of the policies and programmes of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea in the field of sports and also identifying areas where the country needs external assistance. He plans to report his findings to the Secretary-General and follow up on the issues raised during the mission.
